Free water in Hillsborough this month

This just in from the Town of Hillsborough:

The U.S. Postal Service has misplaced about 5,000 Town of Hillsborough water/sewer bills.

The bills were delivered to the Hillsborough Post Office early last week and should have been received by customers by Aug. 1. Payment is due by Aug. 25.

If the Post Office is unable to find the bills by this Wednesday, the town will reprint the bills as long as the data can be retrieved, Hillsborough Finance Director Greg Siler said.
[...]
If the bills can be reprinted, customers should expect to receive them by early next week. Any customers who do not receive a bill this month should call or come by the Water/Sewer Billing and Collections Office to find out how much is owed. Payments may be mailed or paid at the office.
[...]
If customers receive two bills in August, they should disregard one.

Uh right, like people are going to march on down there and ask to pay the bills they haven't received. Good luck, Hillsborough! If I was you, I'd sue the USPS for the lost revenue. I hope you don't charge late fees for customers who didn't get their bills.

I'm sure glad I signed up for auto pay.

If town officials were smart, they'd double bill for September, and not cut off water for a mistake the citizen didn't make.

This just in:

The U.S. Postal Service has found the Town of Hillsborough water/sewer bills that were missing for about a week.

Carl A. Walton, communications coordinator for the Postal Service's Greensboro district, reported that the bills were found Monday and would be delivered today to Hillsborough water/sewer customers.

“We regret the inconvenience this may have caused and express our sincere apologies to the Town of Hillsborough,” Walton said.

Any customers who do not receive a bill this month should call or come by the Water/Sewer Billing and Collections Office to find out how much is owed. Payment is due by Aug. 25 and may be paid at the office, located in the Town Hall Annex at 137 N. Churton St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The office will be open until 6 p.m. on Aug. 27.

Payments also may be mailed to Water/Sewer Billing and Collections Office, PO Box 429, Hillsborough, NC 27278. The office's phone number is 732-2104.

This is the same US Postal Service that we use to send money and contracts and all kinds of important shit every day, right??

I still use the USPS for personal and business mail and I can't remember the last time I had a problem. It's still a good value dollar for dollar. Check out what others around the world are paying for first class mail.

they are always losing mail up in greensboro im first hand experience in this because of section 8 notices that they swear that they sent me i never recieved

They'll probably just double-bill.

Sue the USPS? They usually do an awfully good job. Maybe the federal government could open up first class mail to private competition and we'd see if USPS service improved.
