This Week in Orange Politics: March 2-8

 

Despite a condensed schedule due to today’s weather, it will be a busy week in Orange County. Rogers Road will be the agenda for both the Carrboro Board of Alderpersons and the County Commission. While the Orange School Board Hillsborough Commissioners take a break, the Chapel Hill Town Council will focus on Ephesus-Fordham and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board considers its budget and the designation of over- and under-crowded schools.


CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS


Regular Meeting: Tuesday, March 4, 7:30 pm, Town Hall Board Room

    • The Board will hear a presentation from Raul Pinto of the ACLU on police checkpoint procedures.

    • The Board will consider information on conducting preliminary engineering work and outreach efforts to extend sewer in the Rogers Road Community.

    • The Board will consider establishing a Safe Routes to School Implementation Committee.


 

 

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

    • The Council will dedicate this work session entirely to the Ephesus-Fordham redevelopment plan. Public comment will be heard at both the beginning and end of the meeting.


CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION


Regular Meeting: Thursday, March 6, 7 pm, Lincoln Center

  • Agenda Items of Note:

    • The Board will receive the Superintendent’s recommended budget for 2014-15, as well as hear about the changes to teacher tenure in North Carolina.

    • The Board will also discuss the designation of over- and undercrowded schools for 2014-15.

    • The Board will receive an update on 4-year contracts for 25% of qualified teachers.

    • The Board will vote on final approval on guns in school parking lots.

    • The Board will receive an update on retention of 3rd graders who can't read on grade level.


HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

  • The next meeting will be Monday, March 10th at 7 pm.


ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS


Regular Meeting: Thursday, March 6, 7 pm, Department of Social Services, Hillsborough

    • The board will receive a report from the county and town managers on how to proceed with plans for the Rogers Road neighborhood

    • The board will consider giving the TTA the right to levy an additional $3 vehicle registration tax in Orange County

  • The next meeting will be Monday, March 10th at 7 pm.
