This Week in Orange Politics: April 14-20

Though it's a short week at many government offices across Orange County, the county's public bodies are staying busy. Both the Chapel Hill Town County and the county school board will consider their budgets for the next fiscal year, while the Carrboro Board of Alderpersons will tackle parking. The Hillsborough Town Board will consider two specific projects, while the County Commission will consider its 2014 legislative agenda and discuss rural curbside recycling again.

    • The Board will be updates on comments and outcomes of the Downtown Parking Summit on Shared Parking.

    • The Board will receive a report and consider options concerning the bike corral on E. Weaver Street.

    • The Board will review the 2014 Annual Report on the Schools Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance (SAPFO).

Agenda has been posted now - Highlights are continued discussion of what budget cuts to make should the BoCC not fully fund our request plus a request to the BoCC to fund work next fiscal year to begin one of the older facility projects (if we start the phased list of projects now, we can delay need for next elementary school beyond the renovations -- if we wait for bond funding, our projections show we'll run out of capacity in the middle of the renovation efforts and need to build a new school at the same time as renovating older facilities).

In case you haven't heard yet, tonight's Chapel Hill Town Council meeting on Ephesus-Fordham has been rescheduled to next Monday night at 7pm due to technical difficulties.

This Week in Orange Politics

It'll be a busy week across Orange County this week. The Carrboro Alderfolks will discuss bicycle-friendliness and the Lloyd Farm propery mediation process, while the Chapel Hill Town Council will get an update on UNC-related development. Both school boards will review the student performance data recently released by the state, while the Hillsborough Town Board will get an update on the Colonial Inn. The county commmissioners will meet with the Mebane City Council on public transportation and the Buckhorn EDD, and will get an update on Southern Branch Library in a serperate meeting.

CHALT and the Sierra Club/Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce/WCHL will hold candidate forums for Chapel Hill candidates.
