This Week in Orange Politics: June 16-22

Transit will be a focus this week as Triangle Transit presents bus expansion concepts to the county commissioners Tuesday and hosts a transit update Thursday in Chapel Hill. Both the county commissioners and the Carrboro alderfolks will vote to approve their budgets for next, while the Chapel Hill Town Council will consider several small area plans and the sale of the old library property.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

Regular Meeting: Tuesday, June 17th, 7:30pm, Carrboro Town Hall Board Room

    • A Public Hearing will be held on the proposed Affordable Housing Goals and Strategies.

    • The Board will adopt the 2014-2015 Budget.

    • The Board will discuss possible options for community engagement in development of downtown Carrboro.

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

Special Meeting: Monday, June 16th, 5:30pm, Southern Human Services Center

  • The Council will meet before their regular 7pm meeting at 5:30pm on Monday to review proposals concerning the purchase of the Old Library Property.

    • The Council will consider adopting Council Goals for 2014-2016 and will receive the Ephesus-Fordham Renewal 25% Transportation Improvements Plan.

    • The Council will also conduct public hearings on Glen Lennox, a proposed Duke Energy Calvander-Eubanks Energy Substation at 1701 Eubanks Road, and Preliminary Plat - Ramsley Subdivision at 2021 Eubanks Road.

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

Regular Meeting: Thursday, June 19th, 7pm, Lincoln Center

    • The Board will consider several policy proposals related to curricula, student safety, and conflicts of interest policies for members of the Board.

    • The Board will also have a budget work session for part of the meeting.

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

There is no meeting scheduled this week.

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Regular Meeting, Tuesday, June 17th, 7pm, Southern Human Services Center, Chapel Hill

    • The board will vote whether or not to approve the budget for the upcoming fiscal year

    • The board will receive transit expansion concepts from Orange Public Transportation and Triangle Transit

    • The board will consider an interlocal agreement for solid waste

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

The board will meet on Thursday, June 17, at 7pm, but an agenda is not available at this time.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • The Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership is leading a transit update meeting on Thursday at 6pm at LAUNCH Chapel Hill to hear about the Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit Project and Chapel Hill Transit services and projects. More information here.
