This Week in Orange Politics: June 9-15

Budgets will again be the focus of Orange County's public bodies this week. Both the Chapel Hill Town Council and the Hillsborough Town Board will vote to approve their budgets for the upcoming year tonight, while the county commissioners will hold another work session to continue working through their spending plan tomorrow. The Orange County Board of Education will also consider its budget after hearing about strategies to recruit and retain minority teachers. The Carrboro Alderfolks have the development of a new park and an update for the Local Living Economy Task Force on their agenda.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

Regular Meeting: Tuesday, June 10th, 7:30pm, Carrboro Town Hall Board Room

    • Ideas will be presented for the development of Carrboro’s Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

    • The Board will receive an update on the Local Living Economy Task Force and relaunching the Think Local First campaign.

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

Regular Meeting: Monday, June 9th, 7pm, Southern Human Services Center

    • The Council will consider final approval of the town budget.

    • The Council will also consider final adoption of the Chapel Hill Bike Plan as part of the 2020 comprehensive plan.

    • The Council will also consider amending the Joint Planning Agreement to allow, among other things, agricultural support activities in the rural buffer.

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

Closed Session: Wednesday, June 11th, 6pm, Lincoln Center

  • The Board will meet in closed session to discuss student transfer appeals.

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

The Board will decide on the proposed Budget on Monday, June 9th, 7pm, Town Barn

Budget Work Session, Tuesday, June 10th, 7pm, Link Government Services Center, Hillsborough

    • The board will review allocations it makes to outside agency

    • The board will discuss the budget for each of 12 county departments

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

Regular Meeting, Monday, June 9th, 7pm. Central Office Boardroom, Hillsborough (a closed session will also be held from 6-7pm)

Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education will hold a called special
meeting via conference call on Thursday, June 12 at 1:00 p.m. to discuss the
Mandarin lottery process. It will be held at Lincoln Center (750 S. Merritt
Mill Road, Chapel Hill 27516).
