This Week in Orange Politics: June 23-29

The county commissioners and both boards of education are off this week, all three municipal boards will be meeting. The Carrboro alderfolks will discuss changes to the Land Use Ordinance related to drive-thurs and affordable housing, while the Chapel Hill Town Council will take on the Glen Lennox redevelopment plan and appointments to the town boards and the Hillsborough Town Board will consider issues related to a few specific properities.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

Regular Meeting: Tuesday, June 24th, 7:30pm, Carrboro Town Hall Board Room

  • Agenda items of note for the last meeting before the summer recess:

    • The board will hold a public hearing on a proposed change to the Land Use Ordinance to prohibit further building of drive-throughs and drive-up windows in Carrboro.

    • The board will hold a public hearing on proposed changes to the Land Use Ordinance concerning affordable housing and payments-in-lieu to allow certain affordable units to convert to market-rate units.

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

Special/Regular Meeting: Monday, June 23rd, 5:30pm, Southern Human Services Center

  • Note change in meeting start time: Non-public hearing items will be scheduled for action between 5:30pm and 7:00om. Public hearing items that have been scheduled by prior council resolution for 7:00pm will be scheduled for that time.

  • Agenda items of note:

    • The Council’s biggest agenda items Monday include what could be a final vote on the Glen Lennox redevelopment and a vote to move forward with negotiations in the development agreement process for Obey Creek.

    • Other items include the consideration of SUP applications for the Duke Energy Calvander-Eubanks Energy Substation at 1701 Eubanks Road and an SUP modification for the Southern Orange County Government Services Complex on Homestead Road.

    • Council will also make appointments to a number of Town boards, discuss the sale of the Old Library Property, and consider amending the cell phone ban and towing ordinances in accordance with the recent North Carolina Supreme Court ruling.

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

  • There is no scheduled meeting this week. The next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, July 1st.

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

Regular Meeting, Monday, June 23rd, 7 pm, Town Barn

  • Agenda items of note:

    • The Board will discuss approval of an installment financing agreement for the properties at 604 and 618 N. Churton St. following a public hearing on the subject.

    • The Board will discuss approval of a “Lease/Purchase Agreement” and “Agreement for Purchase and Sale of Real Property” for the property at 101 East Corbin St.

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

  • There is no scheduled meeting this week.

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

  • There is no scheduled meeting this week. The next scheduled meeting is Monday, July 14th.
