but I look forward to reading about it later.Joal Broun for Orange County Commissioner Facebook Grouphttp://www.facebook.com/pages/Joal-Broun-for-Orange-County-Commissioner/...Elect Joal Hall Broun - Orange County Commissionerhttp://uniqueorn.com/joalbroun/
I am a caring, committed, and experienced public servant who works to insure that our community retains its charm while promoting a healthy, vibrant, and environmentally and economically sustainable community. As an Alderman, my accomplishments include the Martin Luther King, Jr. Park and the Adams Tract, fare free bus service, 3 of 4 years without a tax increase, and new sidewalks in our neighborhoods.
As the youngest democrat running and a non-incumbent I am particularly interested in hearing what Alderman Broun might say.
It appears to me that we already have a commissioner who is "caring, committed, and [an] experienced public servant who works to insure that our community retains its charm while promoting a healthy, vibrant, and environmentally and economically sustainable community." His name is Barry Jacobs. Besides generalities, I have seen nothing from Broun to indicate why she thinks voters should vote for her instead of Jacobs. By dividing the liberal and black vote, Broun's candidacy might provide an opening for the third candidate, conservative Democrat Joe Phelps, former mayor of Hillsborough, to winI am in no way saying Ms. Broun did not have the right to run. She did and so does anyone else. I am just questioning why she saw a need to do it in this particular race. .
Thank you for the live blog, Ashley! You did a great job, as did the Sierra Club (especially Jason Baker moderating). I've been watching on TV, and it's great to see the candidates now - before they've gotten bored of their own stump speeches (some haven't even figured out their issues, it seems).I was surprised to not hear any questions about Rogers Road or even the Waste Transfer Station. Did I miss it?
I think there was a Sierra Club question that asked the about the county's waste management issues, and some of the candidates touched on the WTS in the process of answering. But I'm surprised that a major environmental group wouldn't ask a more pointed question about environmental justice and landfill responsibilities.
You did great, Ashley! Can't wait for tomorrow night's forum at OWASA.
Earl's on the Planning Board with me & during our discussions of watershed protection last month he advocated for less protection in many instances.

Is it being shown on Channel 18?
